Application of CATIA to the Three-dimensional Detail Designfor Channel Construction

Abstract

Three-dimensional (3-D) design software CATIA is applied to the channel construction detailing design. The 3-D parametric and template technology is used to establish the 3-D dynamic design model of the channel. When the design is changed, the 3-D channel design model can be adjusted conveniently by modifying the design parameters. The engineering amount, earth excavation and filling amount can be calculated automatically, and the construction detailed drawing can also be generated automatically by the 3-D design model. Compared with the traditional two dimensional design, the efficiency and quality of the design can be improved greatly by the 3-D method. This 3-D design technology is applied to the South-to-North Water Diversion Project and has obtained good result.
